MOGADISHU, Somalia – Four people have been killed on Tuesday in suicide car bomb attack on a district headquarters in Somali capital Mogadishu.

The explosion went off when a car laden with explosives targeted Wardhigley district building in Mogadishu, leaving four people dead, a witness said.

He says the explosion destroyed the building.

It is the heaviest explosion rocked Somali capital, Mogadishu, since the start of the holy month of Ramadan.

Somali armed group Al Shabaab has claimed the responsibility for Tuesday’s suicide explosion.

The group says it had targeted police officers, who had meeting at the compound.

The al-Qaida-linked al-Shabaab militants continue to hold small rural areas in central and southern Somalia.

The group wants to overthrow the weak UN-backed government in Somalia and impose its own strict interpretation of Islamic law.

It has lost control of many towns and cities to a 22,000-strong African Union force supporting the government.
